Selecting an independent school is an important decision and one that has to be right for your child. We appreciate that this can be an extremely difficult task for you as parents as your child is a unique individual with his or her own educational and social requirements. This is where St Andrew's School can help. St Andrew's offers a different approach by valuing the skills of each individual child and nurturing their achievements to enable them to reach their full potential. In doing so the school retains an individuality of its own, which makes it such a success.
Founded over a hundred years ago, the school has both an excellent reputation within the Bedford community and an excellent academic record of achievement. Its small and friendly atmosphere creates an environment in which pupils are eager to learn.

St Andrew's educates girls from aged 3 to 16 years and boys from 3 to 9 years. There are currently over 330 pupils on roll, including those in our Montessori Nursery, where structured play enables children to develop their skills towards attaining the nationally recognised Early Learning Goals.

Children progress from Nursery into our Pre-prep Department where achievements are consolidated as they work towards Key Stage 1 SATs, in which St Andrew's regularly achieves results of 100% at or above the national average.

The Prep Department promotes high academic standards and offers a wealth of additional activities to encourage pupils to become more independent and self sufficient.

The Senior School offers a broad curriculum including Technology, Music, Drama, Textiles, ICT and Food Technology, along with core subjects. Success at Key Stage 3 and GCSE ensures that girls can move on from St Andrew's to a wide variety of Sixth Form Courses. The School aims to achieve the best for its pupils and provide them with a positive outlook and an optimistic vision of their future.

Throughout the school, emphasis is on the individual child. Caring and committed staff work with small classes, usually of no more than 16 pupils, to develop new skills and meet the needs and potential of each child.

Where appropriate, an effective and supportive team of staff provide individual children with additional support in literacy and numeracy.

Overall, St Andrew's is a school committed to high standards of individual care where children can thrive both academically and socially. Many of our pupils benefit from the continuity of an 'all through' school but others successfully join us at various stages of their education.
