from a letter to parents dated 24th January 2006:
Our Value Added results, which are calculated by looking at what our pupils would statistically be expected to achieve from their Key Stage 2 and their Key Stage 3 results and then comparing this to their actual achievement at GCSE, placed St Andrew's top in the county from KS3 to GCSE and second for KS2 to GCSE. Both results placed us within the top 25% of all schools nationally.
from a letter to parents dated 20th January 2004:
I am sure that you will be as pleased as we are to see St Andrew's at the top of the Bedfordshire league tables for our Value Added Score, for the second year in succession.
This Value Added Score measures the progress made by last year's Year 11 between the KS3 SATs taken in Year 9 and the GCSE results they received in the summer.
Expected progress for pupils, based on their results at KS3, is measured as 100. Hence, to have a score of 101.1 indicates that our girls achieved more than they would have been expected to, based on their results at KS3.
This progress is further borne out by the MidYIS Value Added results for last summer's examinations. This compares baseline testing carried out by the School when pupils are in Year 7 with the same girls' GCSE results four years later. This research is collated by the Curriculum, Evaluation and Management Centre at Durham University and is used by more than 1000 schools nationwide.
Our results were excellent and showed that, on average, the pupils at St Andrew's achieved one grade better in every GCSE examination taken last year, than their Year 7 baseline testing predicted. Every subject at GCSE showed a positive Value Added score.
That our pupils are doing so well is an endorsement of our commitment to small teaching groups, the individual help and support that the girls receive and to the many and varied ways we seek to raise their confidence and to instil in them an attitude of "I can do it".
It is, of course, also testimony to the immense hard work put in by staff and pupils alike and I am sure you will join me in congratulating them on these achievements.
from a letter to parents dated 24th January 2003:
The normal expectation is that pupils should improve between Key Stages. Based on a standardised measure of 100, our results show an improvement of 103.1 between Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 and 104.7 between Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. It is clear, therefore, that pupils at St Andrew's are showing significant achievements. This is borne out by our 2002 GCSE pass rate of 81% A* - C grades compared with the national pass rate of 51.5%.
All of this is testimony to the hard work of staff and pupils alike and I hope that you will join me in congratulating them on this tremendous achievement.
